Moving Tips

office moves– If your doing an office move you'll one of the bigger moving companies and a large crew. An efficient office move involves putting items on dollies and keeping them on dollies for the entire trip.. This greatly reduces the hourly rate. Have your elevators and parking aranged before hand and have a representative from the company come by in person give an estimate.

If you have a smaller office you can hire a local residential moving company that will charge less but take a little longer as they carry less dollies on a smaller truck. You'll save money this way.

Residential Moving Companies– Residential moving rates vary greatly. My moving company in Vancouver BC (greensmoving.org) charges 79 mid month and 89 peak month for two guys and a moving truck. This is an average but larger moving companies charge more because they have more overhead due to advertising and office staff.

Every move depends entirely on the workers you have on the day of your move. There are really good large companies and small companies to choose from. It doesen't matter how old or established the company is, if they send you bad workers your move will be expensive and stuff may be broken. Ask the company you hire if they pay well. If they do you'll likely get good movers.

In my opinion owner operators and small companies with 1 or 2 trucks are the way to go. They want to work for you because they need to in order to pay for their trucks and advertising. Bigger companies can easily overbook due to the confusion that can happen in large offices so whatever you do confirm your move the day before just to be sure.

Getting your moving company to work for you

July 16th, 2009

Movers get thirsty and work a lot at especially at the end of the month. Sometimes they dont get a chance to pack a lunch or bring water. Have some water, soda and sandwiches or other food for them. They'll love you for it and therefore work harder saving you time on the move. Let them know you appreciate their hard work because after all, its really hard work. Thats why people hire moving companies in the first place.
